The Vamoots DR is a saucy little minx. I’m really happy to see this bike, it looks especially hot with the amber wall tyres fitted. Cosmetically I’m not a huge fan of a monostay rear end on a road bike, it looks kinda funny, more MTB in my eyes, but if engineering wise it makes sense you’d be hard pressed to argue. Let’s be really clear, this isn’t a Gravel racer as the sweet 73/73 (on a 58cm) is good solid geometry and worked incredibly well for Cervélo and many others over the years.
In the features and tech pages it talks about being able to fit a 28/29mm tyre, so in many respects a great machine able to cope with a whole host of terrain, and by not going for a 32-35mm Gravel racer size means that if you decided to run a 23mm tyre it wouldn’t look too weird. The geometry screams out, ride me and ride me fast, oh and I can stop on a dime. Its a weird mix of comfort, fast and all day enjoyment.
Sometimes I wonder if we create niches so to fuel an excuse to have more bikes, whereas with this disc road it looks like its a bike I’ve been wanting for years, albeit I’d be happy with a set of regular callipers on the front, but I’d love everything else about it. As builders play around with the notion of what can and can’t be done with discs the concept of what that bike can do and look like will change, and I’m sure there will be a bunch of genres and builders who will embrace it to utilise the best attributes of all the parts that make the sum of the bike.
